FSL Track Championships Held at FCS

Friends' Central hosted the Friends Schools League Boys' and Girls' Track and Field Championship on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 16th and 17th. The meet was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 13th, but was rained out on that day. FCS girls' head coach Brandon Shell was ecstatic with his team's performances in winning the Friends Schools League Championship for the second year in a row. "Although the temperature was in the 90's, it turned out to be a perfect day to run. The girls did not disappoint at all. It was the most perfect championship that I've ever been involved with." To reinforce Coach B's statement, FCS won all but one event on the track and in that race, the Phoenix placed second and third. The Friends' Central girls track' team had multiple winners throughout both afternoons.
During the field events on Tuesday, FCS girls' took first and second in the High Jump. Michaela Colavita (4'8") and Olivia Comstock (4'6") placed first and second respectively. In the Long Jump, Sydney McLeod-Whitener placed first (16'3.5") and Genesis Johnson placed second (15'9"). In the Triple Jump, Raanee Smith recorded a second place finish (32'11").
In the running events on Wednesday, the Phoenix girls' were unstoppable. Sidney McLeod-Whitener was first in the 100m (:12.75). Ava Forman finished first in both the 100m hurdles (:15.58) and 300m hurdles (:48.42) while Michaela Colavita placed third in the 100m hurdles (:18.52) and second in the 300m hurdles (:51.64). Ava Forman's 100m hurdle time was an FSL record.
The team swept the 800m with Gabby Wilkinson first (2:19.98), Emily Burd second (2:23.36) and Izzy MacFarlane third (2:27.17). In the 1600m, Gabby Wilkinson placed first in 4:57.71 breaking the FSL record and Emily Burd came in second in 5:10.22. The 3200m saw Lydia Russell finish second in 12:42.82 and Rose McDonnell third in 13:26.35.
Friends' Central continued their dominance in the relays, placing first in all three. The 4x100m (Sydney McLeod-Whitener, Michaela Colavita, Lyla Forman, Genesis Johnson) ran a :51.37. The team of Amelia McDonnell, Olivia Comstock, Claire Szapary, Emily Burd finished the 4x400m in 4:18.10 and in the 4x800m FCS (Sydney McLeod-Whitener, Izzy MacFarlane, Rose McDonnell, Amelia McDonnell) finished in first with a time of 10:21.74.
On Tuesday, the Friend's Central boys' team ended the field events leading the overall meet over favorite Germantown Friends. Cole Snyder was a triple winner Shot Put 45' 10", Discus 141' 7" (PR, FCS Record, FSL Record) , Javelin 147' 10" (PR) Wexler Levitties placed 2nd in Shot Put 41' 2" (PR) and Zak Loudini placed 3rd in discus with 101' 4" (PR). Samson Zaoutis placed 3rd in the High Jump with 5' 8" (PR). Robby Saligman placed 1st in the Pole Vault with 14' 8" (FSL Record) and Samson Zaoutis placed 2nd in Long Jump 18 ' 2.5" and 3rd in Triple Jump 36' 9.5".
The following day in the running events, GFS was too strong for FCS to maintain their lead. The Tigers won the Friends Schools League Boys' Championship with the Phoenix coming in second place. Asa Bell ran a :11.3 in the 100m to capture second place. In the 4X100m relay (Asa Bell, Alex Veith, Anthony Cianfrani, Cole Snyder ) placed second (45.68). The 4X400m team of Anthony Cianfrani, Alex Veith, Samson Zaoutis and Micheal Hogarty came in third place in 3:44.15.
Congrats to Friends' Central's girls' and boys' track teams on their strong showings in the Friends Schools League Championship. Because of the rain out last Saturday, the teams have a quick turn around as they head to the PAISAA Championship at Hill School on Saturday, May 20th. Good luck to all! Go Phoenix!
