Upper School Clubs

Description: Student Council plans Friday assemblies, as well as parties, coffee houses, comedy night, dances, music festivals, the club fair, movie nights, and much more. Council also works to solve student issues and supports other clubs. Meetings are open to all Upper School students.

Description: If you are interested in exploring medical science topics and learning about the latest health science advancements, this club if for you! No prior medical knowledge is needed, just the want to have fun and learn about what makes you, you!!

Description: Art Club creates collaborative and individual works using guidelines and through investigation of new artistic elements and ideas.

Description: Learn about pulsars and asteroids and participate in finding and possibly naming them!

Description: ASA is about bringing together students who are interested in promoting understanding of Asian and Asian-American culture.

Description: BSF meets to broaden the conversation about the state and condition of Black people at FCS, in the United States, and worldwide.

Description: Chess Club is for students of any chess ability. We will cover the basics of chess, practice our skills, and compete.

Description: Learn and discuss everything Latin/Roman and Ancient Greek!

Description: This club is a totally open space to do all sorts of crafts and snack on delicious cookies too! Expect music, crocheting, knitting, drawing, and more!

Description: Creating connections within the caribbean community at FCS and in the surrounding areas, through fun events, or just experiencing caribbean culture.

Description: We compete monthly in the PA High School Speech League. Our primary focus is Parliamentary-style debate culminating in District Championships in February.
 

Description: Develop business leadership skills, attend DECA competitions, and learn to present yourself professionally. 

Description: If you want to be part of fantasy adventures with your friends then this is the place for you! We play Tabletop Role Playing Games like Dungeons and Dragons together. Whether you want to play in a complex year long fantasy game or a lighthearted science fiction heist, we’ve got you covered. Beginners are welcome!

Description: Play new games and compete!

Description: We write objective articles on contemporary global issues so that readers more deeply understand the complex issues in the news.

Description: Every two weeks, we either agree on a movie to watch, and the next meeting, we discuss it, or, watch movies in the club. We have popcorn, fun discussions, and a warm community of film lovers.

Description: Beginner-friendly, no prior experience needed! Pickup games with randomized teams. Track your personal record over the "season" to earn a prize! (Materials are provided.)

Description: Focus, the Upper School student-run newspaper school-related and world news topics. Regularly published at www.fcsfocus1845.org.

Description: GSoA (the o is silent) fosters awareness of, promotes education about, and provides a forum for discussion of gender and sexual orientation.

Description: We will dedicate part of our time together journaling and for the remainder of our club block we will complete our homework. 

Description: The program seeks to inspire by bringing renowned Scholars to campus. This year’s Distinguished Visiting Humanities scholar is Daniel Torday, a novelist, short story writer, and essayist

Description: Through fall and winter, we accept submissions of short stories, poetry, and visual art for the magazine released in spring.

Description: The Investment club is an open forum to discuss and learn about the stock market and the world of finance through mock stock competition and guest speakers.

Description: Explore Environmental Justice through conversations, readings, trips, art, and other mediums. This year we will be thinking about water and water access.

Description: In this club we will try to solve 4 physics problems and will participate in the competition.

Description: The French club watches films, listens to music, enjoys great foods from France and the French-speaking world.

Description: Members prepare for two research-based modeling challenges in computational analysis and operations research each year. Meetings include renowned guest speakers.

Description: Student leaders create initiatives to conduct activities in the school community that follow the Minding Your Mind mission of ending stigma and destructive behaviors associated with mental health issues.

Description: How would you like to argue a really cool civil or criminal case in front of a real judge and a real jury in a real courtroom? Or, if you are more theatrically inclined, you could play the role of the star witness.

Description: Model UN is a program where high school students participate in simulated United Nations scenarios. The time commitment and the workload will be large, so be prepared.

Description: Pass The Aux is a weekly music appreciation club! All genres, eras, and artists welcome. Music trivia, discussions, listening, and appreciation all happen here. We can’t wait to hear your voice!

Description: The students who act as tour guides, hosts, greeters, and much more through a variety of Admission Office-sponsored events, including Open Houses.

Description: A club for the avid to average Phoenix Phan! Our goal is to increase school spirit by designing signs, creating cheers, and attending games.

Description: We will introduce students to Arduino, an open source electronics platform, which will provide a foundation to begin to understand robotics.

Description: A chance to climb at various gyms with other climbing enthusiasts, meetings are outside of school and optional.  

Description: A group that meets weekly for a seminar presentation to discuss the research and science in the field of study represented by the year’s Visiting Scientist. This year’s Distinguished Visiting Scientist will be Rebecca Saxe, who studies Theory of Mind, how we think about other people’s thoughts. (Recent Visiting Scientists have included Doug Emlen, Janna Levin, David Reich, David Charbonneau, Laurence Smith, Hopi Hoekstra, Brian Greene, Bonnie Bassler, and Jared Diamond.)

Description: We do fundraisers and service to benefit our local and global community. We work to alleviate hunger and homelessness in Philadelphia, a Halloween candy sale for UNICEF, Angel Tree, MANNA pie & soup sales, a dodgeball tournament, and a S’mores Sale.

Description: The Shakespeare Competition Club is a performance-based club for students interested in performing Shakespeare. An added bonus is acquiring a greater appreciation for and understanding of the Bard as well. Students will have the opportunity to compete in two Shakespeare competitions: the ESU National Shakespeare Competition and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Competition.

Description: An intersectional feminist club that centers work and activism around intersectional feminist principles, which are those that understand gender, sexuality, racial, disability, body, reproductive, and class justice as feminist issues that should be addressed.

Description: The club was founded in 2022. We are the honorable mention winners of GOES satellite virtual science fair. We are also the winners of Chemagination in Environment Category. 

Description: A group of student-athletes who work to shape the experiences of student-athletes.

Description: We focus on the School’s sustainability efforts, working to implement changes in both behavior and policies. We worked with the Administration to improve the recycling program and got refillable whiteboard markers in classrooms. Last year, Friends Central installed all LED light bulbs and solar panels!

Description: Model Senate that bring people together to turn global ideas into local action.
